Cebu’s pride, Tribu Lumad Basakanon, has successfully raised the Philippine flag in South Korea by winning the gold at the recently concluded Powerful Daegu Festival.
The 23-member Filipino dance group wowed the judges and the spectators with a showcase of Cebu’s grandest festival, Sinulog, to emerge as the champion in the festival’s International Category against other contingents from different parts of the world.
The multi-awarded Sinulog contingent competed in the final street dance performance with a prize pot of 8,000,000 Korean won.
Korean-Philippine Festival Cultural Exchange Association co-chair Ricky Ballesteros announced this good news on social media on July 10, 2022.
“Congratulations Tribu Lumad Basakanon of the Philippines for winning Gold in the international Category, Silver Mongolia, and special award Indonesia,” Ballesteros said on his Facebook post.
The Basakanons join other Pinoy dance groups who have brought honor to the country by winning in different competitions abroad, including the Philippines’ Nawan Cultural Dance Troupe from Zamboanga City who won the gold medal at the European Association of Folklore Festival and the Philippine Para Dancesport team who harvested seven gold, four silver, and eight bronze medals at the Polish Open World Qualifying Round in Lomianki, Poland.
