UPDATED AUGUST 4: Carlos Edriel Yulo, the Philippines’ two-time artistic gymnastics world champion, delivered exceptional routines in qualifying for his key events at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is now poised as a strong contender for multiple medals.
Yulo, the reigning Asian Artistic Gymnastics champion in Men’s Individual All-Around, Floor Exercise, Vault, and Parallel Bars, showcased his skills during the qualification round on July 27 at the Bercy Arena in Paris, France.
In an Olympics feature, Yulo shared his aspirations for the Paris Games: “[I want] a good performance. Of course, a gold medal. I want to win in the floor exercise, vault, also. I’m really shooting for the individual all-around, as well.”
Carlos Yulo qualified for the finals in these events:
- Floor Exercise: Yulo ranked 2nd among 8 finalists with a score of 14.766, an event where he made history as the first Filipino to win a FIG World Championship.
- UPDATE: Gold! Carlos Yulo won the Philippines’ first gold medal in Paris and the first-ever medal in gymnastics with a solid score of 15 to the delight of the crowd at Bercy Arena on August 3, 2024.

- Vault: Yulo secured 6th place among 8 finalists with an average score of 14.683 from his two vaults, an event that earned him his second World Championship title.

- Men’s Individual All-Around: Yulo placed 9th among 24 finalists with an average score of 83.631, competing across all six artistic gymnastics events, including the pommel horse, rings, parallel bars, and horizontal bars.
- UPDATE: Carlos Yulo finishes in the top half at #12 in a field of 24 with solid performances, despite a fall in the first apparatus.
Yulo qualified to be part of the Philippine delegation for the Paris Summer Games as the highest-ranked eligible athlete in the floor exercise at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.
Yulo has trained extensively in Japan under his former coach Munehiro Kugimiya until last year when he chose to return to the Philippines and his former Filipino coach Aldrin Castañeda. He has since been training in gyms around the world with the continuing support of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines.

- Men’s All-Around: Wednesday, July 31, at 6:15 PM, Paris Time (August 1, at 12:15 AM, Philippine Standard Time) RESULTS – Carlos Yulo delivered a solid performance at the Paris Olympics men’s artistic gymnastics all-around finals, scoring 83.032 points and finishing 12th out of 24 competitors, despite a fall in the pommel horse apparatus.
- Men’s Floor Exercise: Saturday, August 3, at 3:30 PM, Paris Time (August 3, at 9:30 PM, PhST)
- Men’s Vault: Sunday, August 4, at 3:00 PM, Paris Time (August 4, at 9:00 PM PhST)
