The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is deepening its collaboration with ACEN, a leading force in the renewable energy sector. This partnership is a key pillar of BPI’s Sustainability Strategy Framework, aiming to foster sustainability and resilience across various industries.
Recently, BPI Securities showcased ACEN, an Ayala Group energy flagship, in a webinar that attracted over 200 participants.
“BPI invests in the future. Highlighting ACEN’s strength and portfolio, the discussion, which was attended by over 200 of our clients, is among our efforts to promote sustainability and resiliency across various sectors.
“This is in line with BPI’s support for the country’s transition towards the use of more sustainable energy resources, aligned with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement,” said Haj Narvaez, President and CEO of BPI Securities.
With ambitions to become Southeast Asia’s largest listed renewables platform, ACEN is on a mission to achieve a renewables capacity of 20 GW by 2030.
“ACEN is committed to transition the company’s generation portfolio to 100% renewable energy by 2025 and to become a Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050,” Jonathan Back, ACEN Group Chief Finance & Strategy Officer, stated.
Currently, ACEN boasts an impressive 4.7 Gigawatts of attributable capacity, predominantly from renewable sources, across key markets including the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India.
In pursuit of sustainable development, BPI has not only promoted renewable energy but also integrated Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its operations. A testament to this commitment is the recent sustainability-linked loan facility signed by ACEN with BPI and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aimed at funding solar projects in the Philippines.
BPI is also enhancing its Sustainable Development Finance program, focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy, green building, and sustainable agriculture projects. This initiative underscores BPI’s commitment to responsible banking and its vision of contributing to a better Philippines, one family and community at a time.
