Bianca Consunji, the new Director of Video for VICE’s Broadly TV, brings with her a wealth of experience from her New York stints in Mashable, Buzzfeed, and Bustle.
While she was Executive Producer at BuzzFeed News Company in New York, Consunji lead a team of producers to help amplify the newsroom’s reporting while producing video journalism.
She was a journalist and producer for Mashable, a popular digital media and entertainment site.
As Founding Director of Video at Bustle, an online community for women, she established the look, tone and feel of the site’s video content. Just a few months under her leadership, Bustle went from zero videos to millions of views with a team of producers.
Her bio also lists the Filipina journalist as having done long form multimedia stories on poverty, international issues and technology, as well as breaking news videos from protests.
She also enjoyed doing videos with internet-famous animals and Sesame Street Muppets.
Originally from Manila and a graduate of Journalism at the University of the Philippines, Consunji was the associate editor of ABS-CBN Publishing’s Metro Magazine, and a correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer before she went to the United States.
In 2011 Consunji went to New York for studies at the Columbia Journalism School and since then has built a career in video reporting and multimedia journalism.
The senior-level video director is also a journalist with hostile environment and first aid training.
Now at Broadly, a website and digital video channel for reports and documentary films about women issues, the Filipino journalist leads a team of producers in developing digital video content that represents the multiplicity of women’s experiences.
Consunji is scheduled to be a speaker at the PH Time is Now networking and mentoring summit for Filipinos who wish to go global.
