The Philippines’ Belle Mariano has bagged the Outstanding Asian Star Prize at the 17th Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA) in South Korea, becoming the first Filipina to earn the coveted global award.
The “New Gen Phenomenal Actress” bested 175 male and female Asian actors to win the award for her performance in the Philippine television series, He’s Into Her.
The Filipina actress is among the five honorary winners selected by global fans, which include China’s Wallace Chung, Japan’s Yusei Yagi, Taiwan’s Alice Ko, and Thailand’s Krit Amnuaydechkorn.
The Kapamilya star makes history as the first female artist from the Philippines to receive the honor, joining actors Alden Richards and Dingdong Dantes won the award in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
This year’s winners will be honored at the SDA 2022 award ceremony to be broadcast live on KBS 2TV and the official YouTube channel of the SDA on September 22, 2022.
Established in 2006, the Seoul International Drama Awards aims to unite people around the world through dramas and to enhance the drama industry.
GMA Network’s Descendants of the Sun Philippine adaptation bagged “The Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year” award at the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards.
The Philippines’ Bela Padilla was earlier nominated for Best Actress in the same edition of the awards.
