The Filipinas of the Miss Earth pageant are the stars on Her World Vietnam’s cover marking the magazine’s 10th year anniversary in August.
Miss Earth’s chairwoman, Filipina Lorraine Esperidion-Schuck who is herself a beauty titleholder, shared the honors with three Filipina winners of the pageant: Miss Earth 2015 – Angelia Ong, Miss Earth 2017 – Karen Ibasco, and Miss Earth 2014 – Jamie Herrell.
Her World Vietnam described the Miss Earth leader as “the power woman who brought this contest to the top of the world’s most prestigious pageant”.
Lorraine Schuck, the 1979 Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia bet to the 1979 Miss Asia Quest, is one of the founders and is Executive Vice-President of Carousel Productions which organizes Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth.
Her World Vietnam notes the 19-year-old run of Miss Earth as “an influential competition for millions of people in the campaign to protect and conserve the environment through the media as well as events”.
Lorraine Schuck shared to Her World Vietnam, “I love nature. I love being raised in an environment filled with trees, clean water. The sky is blue and the air is fresh. Because of the love for nature, reading and watching the news of human disasters has driven us to create a program that brings awareness to the environment. Known beauty contests are incredibly popular. We decided to launch the Miss Earth ‘Beauties for a Cause’ year 2001.”
Miss Earth has since been recognized as one of the three largest beauty contests in the world, and the most important for its environmental cause.
Her World Vietnam presented the Philippines’ historic back-to-back winners of Miss Earth, Angelia Ong, and Jamie Herrell as Power Women of the Earth.
Beauty titlist and model Angelia Gabrena Ong was crowned Miss Philippines Earth 2015 and Miss Earth 2015 in a historic win that followed fellow Filipina Jamie Herrell’s crowning in 2014.
Actress-dancer Jamie Herrell is a Filipino-American beauty queen who won both Miss Philippines Earth 2014 and Miss Earth 2014 titles.
Completing the four Power Women of the Earth is medical physicist Karen Ibasco who was crowned Miss Philippines Earth and Miss Earth in 2017. Karen Ibasco is representing the Philippines at the first Youth Climate Summit of the United Nations to be held in New York City on September 21, 2019.
