Longtime on-screen partners Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz cheered up Pinoys in lockdown with their story of love and friendship shared on Instagram Live.
Bea Alonzo went live via Instagram on April 27, 2020, after she cooked Bagoong Rice for frontliners at the National Institute of Health in the University of the Philippines-Manila and to demonstrate to her followers how the dish was prepared.
All alone in her room, Bea invited some friends to appear with her on the IG live as she wanted someone to talk to but got declined several times. Until John Lloyd Cruz answered the call that lasted for 30 minutes.
Bea screamed “Oh my God” when Lloyd answered her call. The IG live started with a Q&A session that brought up unforgettable memories between the two actors.
After the Q&A the conversation then turned serious when Lloyd asked Bea, “Kailan ako pinakamasaya?” Bea answered “kapag kasama mo si Elias”.
Lloyd admitted to Bea that he still feels lonely even if he is with his son, Elias and family, and in constant communication with his friends.
Pero hindi ko lang talaga masabi kung bakit may ganito kang nararamdaman,” Lloyd shared as he was reflecting on life for him in Cebu while under lockdown.
Bea advised Lloyd to try to still be happy for his son.
“Natatakot ako para kay Elias, kung paano ko siya palalakihin sa mundo sa ganitong estado ng mundo. Ibang iba na,” Cruz responded.
Bea and Lloyd then got into a little discussion over what Bea’s organization has been doing. Bea Alonzo and her I Am Hope Organization have improvised face shields and donated medical supplies to protect frontliners who are battling COVID-19. She told Lloyd that she is happy that many people are willing to give to the poor.
After that, the two turned to tease each other with John Lloyd saying his movie line to Bea, “Ang hilig mo maglagay ng label”.
The popular love team went on to exchange lines from the movies and TV series that they have starred in together.
Here are excerpts from their exchanging of movies and TV series lines:
Lines from the 2002 Filipino soap opera Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay:
“Paano ako? Paano tayo?”
“Niloloko mo lang sarili mo Yuri. Walang tayo hindi magiging tayo.”
“Sige sumuko ka pakawalan mo ‘to. Pero ihanda mo na sarili mo. Itong nararamdaman natin hindi ka na makakahanap ng ganito Katrina, hindi ka na makakahanap ng ganito. Hindi ka na magmamahal ng ganito. Handa ka na bang isuko ito?”
Lines from their 2007 film One More Chance:
“Sana kaya kong sabihin na masaya ako para sa iyo. Kasi umaasa pa rin ako na lang ako nalang ulit”
“She loved me at my worst, you had me at my best”
“I just made a choice Poy”
“And you chose to break my heart”
Line from 2009 Filipino Romantic comedy film:
“I don’t get jealous. I’ve never been jealous ngayon lang”
John Lloyd suddenly turned serious again saying this message to Bea:
“Anong movie ‘yan?” asked Bea, visibly confused as to which movie the lines belong.
“Wala, gusto ko lang sabihin,” John Lloyd replied.
After a long silence, Bea and John Lloyd sang “You Are My Sunshine.”
“Namiss kita,” Bea declared.
“Namimiss Kita,” John Lloyd agreed.
The call ended as John Lloyd’s son, Elias, came into the room and needed to be put to bed.
The screen partners were reportedly recently single again after breaking up with their respective partners.
Netizens who watched the IG live shared that they felt like they were watching a movie.
“I just watched Bea Alonzo’s IG Live with John Lloyd Cruz and now, I feel like watching One More Chance and A Second Chance again. Pleading faceRed heart,” tweeted @_PaulleneReyes.
“Grabe ang feels sa IG Live ni Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz. Kilig, sadness, and happiness all bunched together. Okay, I watched the whole thing. Hahahaha,” @mike41720 tweeted.
“The movie ‘One Day’ reminds me of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo’s friendship. I think the reason why their onscreen partnership lasted that long (17 years) is that they were never romantically involved. What they have is stronger than fleeting romance. :)” @theladyyoga shared.
Dimples Romana, Bea and John Lloyd’s co-actor in the movies One More Chance and A Second Chance, also posted an IG story to share her thoughts.
“Hoy Popoy at Basha bakit ganyan kayo? Nananahimik ang mga puso namin. Humopya kami. Grabe kayong dalawa. Ano? Jusko hindi matanggal iyong ngiti sa pisngi ko,” said Romana who herself has gone viral on social media as the luggage-toting lady in red, Daniela Mondragon.
John Lloyd Cruz starred in Lav Diaz’s film “Ang Babaeng Humayo” (The Woman Who Left), a revenge tale shot in black and white won the top Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival.
Another John Lloyd Cruz starrer and Lav Diaz film “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis (A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery)” won the Silver Bear at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival in February, amid loud cheers and a rousing standing ovation at the screening of the 8-hour film.
The Popular Filipino actor has been honored as an Asian Star at the 15th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) Awards.
