Katutubong Diva Bayang Barrios will bring hope to fellow Filipinos through her “Bagong Umaga (New Day)” concert on October 26, 2024, at the Music Museum. Despite the devastation caused by Typhoon Kristine, Barrios will proceed with the concert, donating part of the proceeds to the typhoon’s victims.
A proud Manobo from Agusan del Sur, Barrios is known for advancing indigenous music and culture in Mindanao. The concert coincides with National Indigenous Peoples Month, reinforcing her mission to spotlight Filipino lumad heritage. In recognition of her contributions, Ateneo de Davao University honored her with the Fr. Theodore Daigler Awards for Mindanao Culture and Arts last September.

As a singer-songwriter, Bayang is celebrated for her iconic songs, including “Malayo Man, Malapit Din,” “Bagong Umaga,” and the “Encantadia” theme. Her powerful voice resonates in Gary Granada’s basketball anthem for the famed barangay squad, “Pag Nananalo ang Ginebra”, and softens in Joey Ayala’s ballad “Walang Hanggang Paalam.” Barrios is also part of the Tres Marias trio with Lolita Carbon and Cooky Chua and has shined in theater productions such as PETA’s “Rak of Aegis.”
Beyond music, Barrios balances multiple roles as a teacher, mother, theater artist, fashion designer, and peace advocate.

In “Bagong Umaga” The Concert, Bayang will perform with the Naliyagan Band and guest artists Poppert Bernadas (Ryan Cayabyab Singers), Dong Abay (Yano), and Bituin Escalante (“Kung Ako Na Lang Sana”). They will be joined by the Biñan Metropolitan Chorus, Biñan Folkloric Dance Troupe, and musician Abby Clutario, who also serves as the musical director. BJ Borja and B-Creative Multimedia Production have taken over direction after the passing of Floy Quintos, who originally planned the event after her first solo concert at the Cultural Center of the Philippines last year.
Bayang will debut her new sound and repertoire, offering a unique blend of Pinoy folk music at the Bagong Umaga concert which begins at 8 p.m. at the Music Museum on October 26. Secure your tickets now at Ticket2Me and be part of this special evening that supports a worthy cause!
