Philippine Azkal football players are set to show off their skills as they join Thai League 1 team for the mid-season.
The Azkals social media named four of their players who have joined Thai football teams competing for Thai League 1.
Even with the Azkals’ upcoming World Cup-Asian Cup qualifier match against Syria on September 5, the country’s national football team said that this movement of players makes “the Philippines’ presence felt in the Thai League.”
In 2018, the Philippine Azkals clinched a historic Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup men’s football championship berth.
Filipino football players have been joining various leagues to improve their skills and technique.
In August 2018, Azkals goalie Neil Etheridge made history as the first Filipino football player to grace the English Premier League for Cardiff City. Etheridge was tagged as the team’s hero and eventually awarded as the city’s best player.
In February this year, 9 Filipino football players from Azkals, UP Men’s Football, and Philippine Ceres-Negros FC signed up for Thai league.
Here are the Azkal players seeing action in the Thai League:
- Forward Curt Dizon signed up with Chonburi Football Club
- Goalkeeper Patrick Deyto joined Suphanburi Football Club
- Defender Alvaro Silva teamed up with Suphanburi Football Club
- Forward Javier Patiño moved to Ratchaburi Mitr Phol Football Club
The 5th Azkal to join the Thai League is forward Angel Guirado, who officially joined Chonburi FC after completing his stint with Malaysian club Negeri Sembilan.
