Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) professor Dr. Stephanie Marie Coo has won the prestigious International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) Book Prize for her book “Clothing the Colony: Nineteenth-Century Philippine Sartorial Culture, 1820-1896.”
Coo received the award for the best book in Humanities – English Language Edition during a virtual awards ceremony on August 24, 2021. Coo’s book was the only one from Asia to be shortlisted for the prize this year out of 247 entries from all over the world.
The biennial ICAS Book Prize (IBP) was established by ICAS in 2003 to bring a focus to academic publications on Asia, to increase their worldwide visibility, and to encourage further interest in the world of Asian Studies. Its Secretariat is hosted by the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS), Leiden, the Netherlands.
Dr. Stephanie Marie Coo of the ADMU History Department completed her Ph.D. in History (summa cum laude) at the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis, having been unanimously conferred the highest distinction in the French university system.
She is currently a Marie Curie Postdoctoral fellow at the Universidad de Granada in Spain and NOVA School of Law-Universidade Nova de Lisboa in Portugal.
Dr. Coo’s book “Clothing the Colony: Nineteenth-Century Philippine Sartorial Culture, 1820- 1896” is available for purchase on the Ateneo de Manila University Press website, as well as on e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada.
The Ateneo de Manila University Press topped the Aklatan all-Filipino online book fair last year.
