Asia Society in the Philippines is presenting a series of leadership talks honoring the legacy of human rights advocate and Filipino leader, the late Jose Luis Martin “Chito” Gascon.
The education institution that promotes understanding Asia through education, has partnered with award-winning group PumaPodcast, YouthLed, and the Asia 21 Young Fellows of the Philippines for the “Kung Gusto mo ng Pagbabago: The Chito Gascon Leadership Series (If You Want Change: The Chito Gascon Leadership Series) which kicks of on Friday, January 28, 2022.
Asia Society begins the 5-episode series with the episode on “Activism and Advocating for Change” featuring conversations between Theodore “Ted” Te of the University of the Philippines College of Law and the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) and a panel composed of Ruby Rosselle “Ross” Tugade of the Center for International Law Philippines, policy researcher Kenneth Isaiah “Ken” Ibasco Abante, and independent researcher Marianne “Maien” Joy Vital.
Journalist Roby Alampay of PumaPodcast moderates the conversation between the seasoned leaders in their fields and young leaders who share their insights on nation-building.
The leadership series is being presented as the Filipino nation prepares for the upcoming May 2022 national elections, seen by many as a crucial turning point for the Filipino society which has wrestled with leadership issues for many decades.
“The program aims to highlight the role passionate advocates and leaders have played in social change and how they can serve as a guide for young leaders; to unite generations in solving the issues today and tomorrow as a joint endeavor, and to equip the youth with examples of positive leaders and inspire them to vote wisely in the upcoming elections,” Asia Society Philippines stated in its activity brief.
Episode 1 of the Chito Gascon Leadership Series goes live on Asia Society Philippines Facebook and YouTube and PumaPodcast’s channels on January 28 at 6 pm.
