Filipino actor Arjo Atayde gave the Philippines its 1st-ever Best Actor win at the recently concluded 2020 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA).
Atayde was recognized for his intense acting skills on the hit ABS-CBN’s TV series ‘Bagman,’ earning him the highest accolade for male actors competing for the Asian Academy Creative Awards announced on the second day of Gala Finals streamed via Facebook on December 4, 2020.
The AAA’s Best Actor bagged the award for his outstanding portrayal as the 30-year-old Benjo, who serves as a governor’s barber but in reality, works as a bagman for a corrupt politician.
The Star Magic actor made history as the first Filipino to win Best Actor in Asia Pacific’s most prestigious awards for creative excellence.
Atayde is also the lone Filipino awardee in the Grand Winners list out of the 23 Philippine national prize winners revealed earlier in October.
The 30-year-old actor received the award virtually, delivering an emotional acceptance speech:
“Asian Academy Creative Awards, thank you for pushing through with the awards night, this means so much to me, to everyone else, to every actor, existed tonight and showed their brilliance, their art. We love the same thing, doing the same thing and it’s a dream come true man! I hope this is not the first and last, I hope this is the beginning. Thank you so much Asian Academy!”
Atayde went to social media to narrate his experience as an actor over the years and expressed his overwhelming joy on his international recognition.
“Two days ago, we had the Asian Academy Creative Awards panel interview. 👌🏼 even before I first stepped foot into this industry, my goal has always been to represent our country in any way I can. Nine years into my work in this industry, I was finally given the chance. Even without the decision, I am extremely grateful for the appreciation and recognition of what I do. All I want to do is act and inspire. Thank you for making this dream of mine come true! Here we go 🇵🇭🤘🏼
More Filipino talents continue to raise the Philippine flag in the international film scenes including a Best Actress win for Iska’s lead actor at the Women’s Film Festival in Afghanistan and Cavite writer-director Arvin Kadiboy Belarmino who has given the country its 1st Best Film award from the Interfilm Berlin-Brandenburg Film Festival in Germany, an Academy Award (Oscars) Qualifying Festival.
