“Fan Girl” from award-winning director Antoinette Jadaone is having a world premiere at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) this October.
The psychological suspense flick is the lone Filipino entry under the Tokyo Premiere 2020 section of the Japanese film festival that honors works by celebrated filmmakers from around the world. Its inclusion in the prestigious festival’s official line-up was announced on September 29, 2020.
Fan Girl stars TV actress Charlie Dizon and heartthrob Paulo Avelino for the lead roles in a cautionary tale of an obsessed fan who sneaks into an actor’s house to find a “horrifying truth.” It is written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone, whose Six Degrees of Separation earlier won Eiga Hiho magazine’s best 2019 TIFF film.
The blockbuster “That Thing Called Tadhana” director’s newest film is vying for the Audience Award with 31 other contenders under the Tokyo Premiere 2020 section. Fan Girl is produced by Project 8, Epicmedia, Black Sheep, Globe Studios, and Crossword Productions.
This year’s Tokyo International Film Festival will be held from October 31 to November 9, 2020.
Philippine cinema is meanwhile kicking off its ‘Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino’ with over 100 local films streaming this October.
Filipino films have been receiving awards from international competitions amid the pandemic.
Filipino documentary “Aswang” recently conquered South Korea’s 12th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, winning the White Goose Award for Best Film in the international section of the competition.
Isabel Sandoval’s “Lingua Franca” bagged the top prize at this year’s Bentonville Film Festival.
