Ang Larawan (The Portrait), the film adaptation of Larawan, The Musical, was awarded two trophies from the 58th Asia-Pacific Festival in September.
Ang Larawan’s film score by Ryan Cayabyab won Best Original Music Score from the Taiwan-based Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific.
The period film, set in pre-World War II Intramuros, received the Best Art Design for production designer Gino Gonzales.
The musical film credits Cayabyab for its original music performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra and sung by an all-star cast including lead characters Joanna Ampil whose musical theater credits include Miss Saigon, popular singer Rachelle Alejandro, and Gawad Urian awardee Paulo Avelino.
Gonzales designed the film based on the period of the musical and National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin’s three-act English play A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino.
Ang Larawan posted on social media its thanks to the 58th Asia-Pacific Festival for the two awards, along with photos of the specially-designed trophies in the shape of a mother sculpted by Taiwan’s national artist, sculptor XU Li-Xian.
Ryan Cayabyab and Gino Gonzales previously won for their respective works at the 2017 Metro Manila Film Fest where the film won Best Picture.
Ang Larawan also credits its script penned by National Artist for Theater and Literature Rolando Tinio.
Ang Larawan tells the story of sisters Candida and Paula Marasigan, daughters of high profile painter, Don Marasigan, who are faced with financial hardship after their father stops painting.
