All-Filipina startup Cawil.AI Solutions has won the second prize in the 2022 International Trade Centre (ITC) SheTrades Global Hackathon.
Cawil.AI Solutions competed with four finalist teams from Egypt, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, and Nigeria, and emerged in 2nd place next to the winning Nigerian team in the competition’s virtual final pitching and award ceremony.
The all-women startup from the Philippines was named the runner-up winner in the virtual finals of the global hackathon, besting over 100 startups and women entrepreneurs around the world who submitted their tech ideas for an inclusive and green economy.
The Switzerland-based International Trade Centre cited Cawil.AI Solutions for offering “a solution that addresses the digital skills gap for women by building a digital community platform for peer-to-peer learning.”
Cawil.AI Solutions, an industry-agnostic artificial intelligence solution that provides AI driven business solutions integrated into web, mobile application, and industry automation, is run by a team composed of Cherry Murillon, the founder and lead innovator of the Filipina startup, Lead Engineer Kathleen Manalo, Computer Programmer Justin Louise Neypes, and Community Officer Amber Clarisse Cubacub.
Murillon presented the team’s winning solution called the “Zealus Women of Tech,” a technology for women in the gig economy that impacts climate change.
The SheTrades Hackathon which hosted this year’s virtual final pitching and award ceremony on March 21, 2022, seeks to leverage women entrepreneurs as agents of change in the green economy, particularly through adopting green business practices and developing products and services that are climate-friendly.
This year’s winners of the competition were chosen by a high-level jury composed of members from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Parcel Service (UPS), International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA), and Dubai Industries and Exports.
Filipino innovations and startups that have won international hackathons include the WONDERPETS all-girl student team of Batangas State University, World MAQI, and the Mindanao-based forestry startup Galansiyang.
