Filipino tennis sensation Alexandra “Alex” Eala notched another feat in her professional tourney as she won the opening game of the W25 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain.
The teen tennis star beat Francesca Jones, a more-experienced opponent from the United Kingdom with a 6-3, 7-6 score on November 18, 2020.
The 15-year old netter, who also won in her first match of the W15 Castellon pro tourney in Spain, held her ground in a tight second set against the 20-year-old British that resulted in a tiebreak.
The Rafa Nadal Academy scholar struck four straight points which paved her way to victory.
In a Facebook post of Eala, she expressed delight over her latest win and offered sympathy to her flooded “kababayans in the Philippines.
“Happy with this good start in my first 25k Pro Tournament! 💪🏼 I saw some photos and videos of the flooding from the typhoons which have hit the Philippines in the last 3 weeks. I pray that everyone recovers fast,” wrote Eala in a Facebook post today, November 19.
Eala will advance to the second round of the tournament facing 21-year-old Lara Salden of Belgium today, November 19.
The Filipino athlete currently ranks 3rd in the world ranking, a notch down from her No. 2 ranking after her historic French Open semifinals appearance.
Alex had earlier ruled her 1st tennis competition amid lockdown in Spain in August.
