Filipino tennis champion Alex Eala continues to make world history as she advanced to the semifinals of the 2020 French Open girls’ singles tournament.
The Philippines’ tennis champion marched to the semis after successive four wins – her main draw debut match against Hungary’s Natalia Szabanin, followed by an edging of Mara Guth of Germany, the defeat of Leyre Romero Gormaz of Spain, and the intense two-hour game against Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals on October 8, 2020.
The 15-year-old athlete edged Noskova in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 score, notching another victory after their head-to-head match in 2018 for the Les Petits As-Le Mondial Lacoste Girls Singles Championship title that Eala won.
The Rafael Nadal Academy scholar at first struggled in the 1st set with Noskova leading by two-points against the young Filipina player.
But the World No. 4 tennis sensation did not make the 2nd set easy for her opponent after a comeback where she got more return points and eventually scored the set, 6-3.
Eala was unstoppable in the last set and finished the game with a four-point lead, besting her opponent who currently ranks 33rd in world rankings.
The young tennis star also reached the record of Felix Barrientos who also advanced in the semifinals of a Grand Slam tourney, the Boys Singles at the 1985 Wimbledon Juniors.
Alex Eala is expected to overtake her current world rankings after her semi-finals match.
The Filipino tennis hope will face Elsa Jacquemot of France at the Roland Garros Court 14, Paris, France on October 9 for a spot at the French Open finals.
Alex has won previous international matches including a historic Grand Slam Australian Open Girls Doubles title and 5 doubles titles in Europe.
