Filipino tennis champion Alexandra “Alex” Eala has entered the top 1000 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) World Ranking, boosted by her successful campaign at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s World Tour in Spain.
The 15-year-old tennis sensation from the Philippines climbed 248 notches to her current 942nd spot in the WTA Singles Rankings released on February 1, 2021.
Eala’s leap to the top 1000 in the WTA that was established by tennis legend Billie Jean King for professional women players comes after the teen prodigy secured her first pro tennis championship title at the first leg of the ITF W15 Manacor in Spain held in January.
Eala started her 2021 season with a five-game run to the championship, beating top-seeded and top-ranking players along the way.
The Rafa Nadal Academy scholar and Globe Ambassador also made her historic first appearances in the quarterfinals, semis, and finals at the ITF professional tour since she turned professional in early 2020. Eala also reached the quarterfinals in the second leg of the W15 Manacor tour.
Alex Eala, the World No. 3 Junior and reigning Australian Open Doubles Champion, has decided to skip the final leg of the ITF World Tour and instead will travel to France to compete in a tournament that will start on February 9, 2021, to boost her quest for another title and a chance to further improve her world ranking.
