Filipino actor Alden Richards just proved that online gaming can also be a useful and productive way to give back to the community especially to those families affected by the recent typhoons that struck the Philippines.
The Kapuso star and online gamer first announced his intention to help the typhoon victims on November 15, 2020, from whatever he would earn from game streaming.
“Tara guys tulong tayo sa mga nasalanta ng Bagyong Ulysses,” Richards wrote on his Facebook to invite his followers to watch his online games and send their donations as well.
The following day, the Eat Bulaga co-host posted an update after raising Php 222, 559 for the typhoon victims.
“Maraming salamat sa lahat ng nag donate,” he said. “Patuloy po tayong tumulong sa abot ng ating makakaya sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo. God bless and keep safe.”
On November 23, Alden posted photos showing the repacking of relief goods to be distributed to the residents of Barangay Malanday and Tumana in Marikina City.
The two barangays were greatly affected when Typhoon Ulysses hit the country on November 11 and 12.
“Dahil po sa inyo kaya marami tayong matutulungan! Maraming salamat sa suporta sa #ARGaming,” the multi-awarded actor said on his post.
On November 26, the multi-awarded actor delighted the beneficiaries by personally showed up with his team to distribute the relief goods.
He handed out bags contained kilos of rice, canned goods and sanitary toiletries.
“Isa talaga yung Marikina sa mga pinakamatindi yung naging damage because of the typhoon, so dito kami nag-decide na ibigay ang mga donations natin,” Alden told GMA News in an interview.
“Yun din naman yung purpose ko talaga, why I started gaming, eh,” the Asia’s Multimedia Star continued. “Aside from para makita ng mga tao yung bagay na that I enjoy doing, its also yung mga nakukuha natin na mga stars, mga tips thats what we call it, talagang mas gusto ko siya na ginagamit for good use.
“So this is it. This is the first charity work ng AR Gaming,” he added referring to his Facebook page he converted into a gaming channel.
The Filipino pride icon also expressed that he is not the type of person who flaunts charity works on social media. He just needs to show present this relief operation online for transparency purposes, for the sake of those who supported the crowdfunding drive.
“Actually marami naman sa nakakakilala sa akin that I don’t publicize my charity works but I wanted to be transparent to the viewers, dun sa mga nag-donate kasi it came from their own pockets. Gusto kong ipakita na may pupuntahan yung dinonate nila,” said the Asian Star Prize awardee.
Alden has been helping people hard-hit by the pandemic since August by gives out cash and gadgets to his fans to help them with their online schooling.
