Popular Filipino actor Alden Richards recently participated in the “Saving Our Seas (SOS)” initiative, a program launched by leading brand Century Tuna to prevent plastic pollution in the Philippines, one of the world’s richest marine biodiversity centers.
The Asian Star Prize awardee along with Superbods winners and finalists joined the launch and beach clean-up drive held in March in Anilao, Batangas, to raise awareness of the importance of marine conservation and the involvement of consumers in the fight against plastic pollution.
Richards, a known humanitarian aid provider, expressed his support for the project, stating that protecting and saving the seas is everyone’s responsibility.
“I am so honored to be part of Century Tuna’s ‘Saving Our Seas’ initiative and I totally support this project as I believe that we are all connected to nature. We can only remain healthy if we have a healthy environment. It is our responsibility to protect and save our seas,” said the Century Tuna Ambassador.
The SOS initiative is being done in partnership with HOPE’s Aling Tindera Waste-to-Cash Program, where people in the community can collect their plastic waste and exchange it for cash. Through the initiative, Century Tuna promotes the concept of a Plastic Circular Economy, which aims to divert plastics away from nature to ensure they won’t leak back into the environment.

The initiative has deployed 11 Aling Tindera waste bins along the shoreline of Mabini, Batangas, where people can drop their plastic and convert their trash into cash. Century Tuna aims to collect at least 10 metric tons of plastics for its pilot year.
The launch of the “Saving Our Seas” initiative coincided with the celebration of Earth Hour last March 25, 2023, the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment.
SEND congratulations to Alden Richards and the people involved in the Saving Our Seas drive to rid the oceans of plastic pollution!
