The Philippines is set to make history as it hosts the Miss Tourism International (MTI) pageant for the first time, marking a milestone in the prestigious competition’s nearly three-decade history.
Breaking tradition, the 28th edition of the international pageant will be held outside Malaysia, with Davao City welcoming global candidates from November 15 to 30, 2025, culminating in the grand coronation on November 29.
MTI President and owner Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi announced the good news on January 22, in a Makati City press conference where she signed the deal with Mutya ng Pilipinas Chairman, Fred Yuson.

The MTI official also shared the story behind the partnership and how they decided to bring the pageant to the Philippines.
“We hosted the 27th Miss Tourism International, December the 13th, and we have a winner from [the] Philippines. Mutya [ng Pilipinas] produced six winners. And guess what my friend Fred said? ‘How about bring the pageant here [in the Philippines]?’” Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi shared.
“There’s no second thought. We shook hands straight away. He’s a very convincing guy. I’m happy. I think I’ll be here more often when we do the Miss Tourism International in November. I believe there will be a lot of activities monthly to build up in bringing the world to [the] Philippines,” he added.
Yuson, on the other hand, expressed excitement, noting that the international pageant presents opportunities to boost tourism in the country.
“I’ve known Tan Sri for almost 10 years and we bought Mutya [ng Pilipinas brand] almost the same time. And we are progressing. We are a 57-year-old pageant, one of the oldest in the Philippines. And I think we are ready now to bring the Philippine pageantry to the next level,” he said.
Mutya ng Pilipinas President Cory Quirino, who was also present at the event, expressed confidence in Yuson’s leadership in organizing the global competition.
“Knowing the style and degree of passion of Fred Yuson, he tends to outdo every edition of Miss Tourism International in the past. So he wants to show Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi that the Philipines can do it in its own particular personal style of pageantry that is nothing less than amazing,” she remarked.
The Philippines is the most successful country in the longest-running tourism-related international beauty pageant, with six winners: Peachy Manzano (2000), the late Rizzini Alexis Gomez (2012), Angeli Dione Gomez (2013), Jannie Alipo-on (2017), Cyrille Payumo (2019), and the reigning queen Liana Barrido (2024).
