Philippines Dominates ICF Dragon Boat World Championships, Secures 11 Gold Medals

The Philippines won the Overall Champion title at the 2024 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships hosted by the country in Puerto Princesa Baywalk, Palawan.

The Filipino paddlers bagged an overall medal haul of 11 golds, 20 silvers, and 16 bronzes, propelling Team Philippines to the top of the leaderboard of the Dragon Boat Worlds staged from October 31 to November 3.

The Philippines claimed two prestigious titles in the masters category: the over-40 20-seater mixed 500m and the over-40 20-seater women’s 2000m. In a thrilling finish, the host team won the 20-seater mixed 500m with a time of 2:06.34, narrowly surpassing Singapore’s 2:06.73, while Germany took bronze.

The Ukraine team took gold in the 20-seater mixed 500m, outpacing both the Philippines and AIN with a time of 1:57.51, marking their fifth title of the event. Czechia made waves on Sunday with two victories, including a standout win in the 20-seater open 2000m, securing the top spot in 8:42.74, ahead of the Philippines and India.

Thailand took overall second place with eight titles, and Team Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) came in third with six golds, while Ukraine and Canada rounded out the top five with five and four titles, respectively.

As the competition closed, teams from Thailand, Indonesia, Hungary, Malaysia, Spain, Ukraine, Chinese Taipei, Czechia, Cambodia, the Philippines, and AIN earned slots in the upcoming Chengdu 2025 World Games, with China holding a reserved quota.
