Filipino students brought home silver and bronze medals from the 36th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Egypt, continuing the medal-winning streak of Team Philippines. The competitive programming competition is one of five international science Olympiads held annually.
The 2024 IOI Awards Ceremony, held with the Pyramids of Giza in Alexandria as backdrop, saw Jerome Austin Te, a Grade 10 student of Jubilee Christian Academy, receiving one of the 61 silver medals awarded. Te improved on his bronze win in last year’s historic best performance of the Philippine delegation.
Filbert Ephraim Wu, a Grade 12 Victory Christian International School student, won one of the 91 bronze medals, marking his second consecutive medal at the IOI.
Walsh Nico Adrian Letran, a Grade 12 student from Saint Jude Catholic School, received an honorable mention, one of the 42 given. Hans Gabriel De Vera, a Grade 11 Philippine Science High School – Main Campus student, completed the team.

The Philippine team competed against 362 participants from 91 countries, showcasing their skills in problem analysis, algorithm design, data structures, programming, and testing.
The Filipino honorees at the 2024 IOI in Egypt are:
- Silver Medal: Jerome Austin Te (Rank: 81)
- Bronze Medal: Filbert Ephraim Wu (Rank: 142)
- Honorable Mention: Walsh Nico Adrian Letran (Rank: 271)
These students earned their spots in the competition through the National Olympiad in Informatics, overseen by NOI Philippines and supported by the Science Education Institute – Department of Science and Technology (SEI-DOST).
