Filipino grade school students triumphed at the 2024 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) in Malaysia, winning 89 awards, including the prestigious Legend and Star of the World honors.
The math competition held in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur from July 12 to 16, showcased the students’ exceptional skills in logical reasoning and mathematical applications.

The Filipino mathletes represented the Philippines in the WMI Final Round after receiving top honors at the WMI Preliminary Round held by each WMI member’s country or region between January and March.
The Philippine delegation, organized annually by the Asian MathSci League Inc. (AMSLI) Philippines under the leadership of President Rechilda Villame, highlighted the country’s ongoing success at the WMI. Last year, the local mathletes garnered 143 contest awards. In 2018, the delegation won 111 competition honors.
This year’s participants included math enthusiasts from 22 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Australia, and Turkey.
“By participating in this prestigious competition, the young Pinoy mathematicians have not only honed their skills but also gained invaluable experiences that will shape their future endeavors,” the AMSLI Philippines report stated.
