The University of San Agustin College of Law (USA Law) in Iloilo City proudly represented the Philippines and reached the semifinals at the 27th Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition (IEMCC).
The champion team from the Stetson IEMCC Southeast Asian Region Round (SEARR) showed an impressive performance throughout the competition held from April 13-15, 2023, at Stetson Law in Gulfport, Florida in the United States, where 23 teams from 14 countries participated, showcasing their expertise in international laws concerning the environment.
USA Law Publications’ social media today announced that the team’s winning streak started from the preliminary rounds where USA Law managed to defeat teams from Ukraine, India, Nepal, and fellow SEARR representatives, the University of the Philippines.
The team continued its winning streak against a team from Brazil in the quarterfinals. This win allowed them to advance to the semi-final round, where they faced off another team from India and eventually bowed out of the competition.
The USA Law team was composed of Blessie Marie Cawaling, Raphael Descartes Roldan, Quemel Charles Malte, Rency Joseph Ponce De Leon, Marco Georgione Dava, and their coach Atty. Anfred Panes.
Dava was awarded the Best Oralist of the preliminary round, while Cawaling received the 6th-place Oralist award.
The USA Law team’s excellent performance in the competition has once again put the Philippines on the map in the field of international environmental law, following the championship win by the University of Cebu Law at the 2020 Stetson IEMCC and UP Law’s Stetson Global win in 2018.
SEND CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to Iloilo’s University of San Agustin for reaching the semifinal in the Stetson Moot Court global rounds in Florida!
