Kyla Atienza of the Philippine Women’s Volleyball National Team was hailed the Best Libero at the ASEAN Grand Prix 2022 held in Thailand.
Atienza of the Creamline Cool Smashers-powered national team received the award for the best defensive specialist on Sunday, September 11, at the first leg of the tournament despite her team’s failure to make a podium finish.
The former Lady Tamaraw libero made her debut in the last AVC Cup for Women held in the Philippines just before the ASEAN Grand Prix.
Atienza tormented the competition’s powerful spikers like “4T” Thi Thanh Thuy Tran and Chatchu-On Moksri in her first tournament as part of the National Team.

Kyla immediately trended on Twitter, with many expressing their admiration for the skill that Kyla showed in the regional games.
She is the fourth Filipina to win an international tournament award after Kathleen Arado, Dawn Macandili, and Majoy Baron.
The Philippine team, nicknamed Pambansang Good vibes, finished in fourth place after losing against Indonesia in closely-fought 3 straight sets, 24-26, 22-25, and 23-25.
Open hitter Jema Galanza led the game with 16 points while Michelle Gumabao scored 15 points.
The second leg of the 2022 ASEAN Grand Prix which would take place in Indonesia will be the next task of the Philippine squad. The competition dates will be revealed by the organizers within the next few days.
The Cool Smashers were sent to represent the Philippines this time by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) only a week after their participation in the AVC Cup for Women and not long after their successful campaign in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference.
