Team Philippines has bagged 266 medals and awards at the 25th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), this year’s Talent Olympics for performers and entertainers held in Anaheim, California, U.S.A.
The Philippine delegation took home 38 golds, 59 silvers, and 85 bronze medals, as well as various honors and awards from the international competition.
The Philippine delegation also won second place for Best National Costume at the global event. The Filipino delegates showcased the traditional garments of the Mindanao Tribes of Tausug, Yakan, Maranao, and the Royals of Maguindanao during the event’s Parade of Nations.
National Director for Team Philippines Gerry Mercado was honored with the Extraordinary National Director Award at the opening ceremonies of the WCOPA.
Mercado recalled Team Philippines’ challenging journey to the championships and thanked the Filipino competitors for making sacrifices and successfully raising the country’s flag at the competition.
The Philippines’ National Director also expressed gratitude to the Filipino-American community in California for generously supporting the team in a Facebook post.
Sixty official delegates from the country competed with fellow contestants from around the world in categories such as dancing, singing, and modeling, among others, in the championships held from July 22 to 30, 2022.
The 2022 WCOPA awards for Team Philippines include the following:
- 38 Gold, 59 Silver, and 85 Bronze Medals
- 44 Semi-Finalist Medals
- 8 Grand Finalist Medals
- 1 Scholarship
- 29 Division Winner Plaques
- 1 Extraordinary National Director Plaque
- 2nd Place Best in National Costume
In 2019, Team Philippines picked up a total of 390 medals in the 23rd WCOPA held in California.
