The Filipinas are playing to keep its winning streak and solo group leadership as it goes up against Malaysia in today’s match at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) 2022 Women’s Championship at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.

The Philippine Women’s National Football Team grabbed the top rank with 6 points in Group A after upsetting the FIFA World No. 12 Matildas of Australia (1-0) and dominating the Lionesses Singapore (7-0) in successive matches earlier this week.

Going into its third game this Friday, July 8, 2022, at 7 pm, the Philippines plays to win against Malaysia (0 wins, 2 draws) to keep its winning streak and maintain leadership over the teams of Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia.

“Obviously this showed we have a deep bench and great unity of the team,” said Filipinas coach Alen Stajcic in the AFF post-game report.

The Filipinas are scheduled to meet Indonesia on July 10 and Thailand on July 12, vying for a semifinal berth and a crack at the championship crown to be played on July 17.

The AFF Women’s Championship games welcome live audiences to the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna, and the City of Imus Grandstand in Cavite. The games can also be viewed from home on Cignal TV, on free TV channel One Sports, and on its premium channel One Sports+.

The ongoing games mark the first time the Filipinas are playing in front of the home crowd since making history with a first-ever qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup last January.

The Filipinas also marked another milestone last May by winning a bronze medal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games played in Hanoi, the country’s first medal in the women’s football event since 1985.

The Philippine Women’s National Football Team reached its highest FIFA World ranking at No. 53 in the June 17 listing.
