Top Hollywood Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy will be coming to Manila for the ‘Funny is Funny’ World Tour this August 2022.
The stand-up comedy sensation is set to perform in the Philippines to stage his new show at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on August 31.
As one of Hollywood’s top comedians, Jo Koy has come a long way from his humble beginnings performing at a Las Vegas coffee house and now regularly sells-out arenas and theaters across the world.
Jo Koy is known for his irreverent stand-up comedy acts that poke fun at his Asian-American experiences and Filipino heritage, more notably his Filipina mother’s insistence on doing things “Pinoy” in America.
In an interview with CNN Philippines on June 10, 2022, the Filipino-American comic talked about his fourth Netflix special and his upcoming movie Easter Sunday, a film about his experiences and his own family.
The Steven Spielberg-produced film starring Jo Koy is centered on a Filipino-American family during their Easter celebration. It will hit theaters ahead of his performance in Manila this August.
Jo Koy shared about working with cast members and actors of Filipino descent for the movie and celebrating their Pinoy heritage and culture on set.
“We were doing all of that, eating Filipino food and celebrating the culture and of course, talking in Tagalog as much as we could and it was just an incredible experience. What Steven (Spielberg) let me do was just incredible,” Jo Koy told CNN Philippines.
The comedian and actor also revealed that his latest Netflix special airing soon on the video streaming platform was filmed at The Forum in Los Angeles. Jo Koy made his Netflix debut in 2017. He has also published his tale of Filipino American success in Hollywood in the book he authored, “Mixed Plate”.
Funny is Funny tickets go on sale starting June 14 through the SM tickets website and its outlets.
