Philippine passport holders are regaining visa-free entrance to Jeju and Yangyang in South Korea beginning June 1, 2022.
The South Korean tourism program for short-term visits by international travelers without a required visa will again be in effect since it was suspended in June 2020 as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19.
Korea Tourism Organization announced in early May the resumption of the visa-free program for most international travelers including those from the Philippines entering Jeju and Yangyang via international airports.
- The visa-free entrance to Jeju attracts Filipinos and other nationalities to the island province which boasts of both natural and cultural offerings including film sites for Korean dramas (Boys Over Flowers, Secret Garden, Jewel in the Palace, The Legend of the Blue Sea).
- Entrance to Yangyang in Gangwon (Winter Sonata, Crash Landing On You, It’s Okay Not to Be Okay) is visa-free for groups of 5 or more travelers from the Philippines traveling to Korea through a designated travel agency.
Filipinos can also apply to visit other parts of South Korea with the Short-Term Travel Visa and Electronic Visa processing also resuming on June 1.
- The short-term visa (C-3) allows foreigners from countries classified as Level 1 (low level of COVID cases) to stay for up to 90 days for marketing research, travel, visiting relatives, meetings, or similar reasons.
- E-visa for foreigners with excellent skills, foreign patients, and group tourists, which were suspended in April 2020 will also resume issuance on June 1 via the Korea Visa Portal.
