Filipino-American community leaders from the past and in the present are named in the new Fil-Am Friendship monument unveiled in Glendale, California.
The Filipino American Friendship Monument standing 6-foot-high is located near the entrance of the Adult Recreation Center at 201 E. Colorado Street in Glendale.
The marble monument honoring the contributions of the Fil-Am community was spearheaded by the Filipino-American Business Association of Glendale-Greater Los Angeles County (FABAG-GLAC).
The new marker commemorates over thirty years of community service and collaboration between FABAG and the City of Glendale. It also pays homage to Filipino-American community leaders, including one of the non-profit’s past presidents and founders, Ruby De Vera.
The monument to Filipino American Friendship was officially unveiled on April 4, 2022, after its installation was unanimously approved by the Glendale City Council in March.
Philippine Consul General Edgardo B. Badajos congratulated the officers and members of FABAG-GLAC for tirelessly working on the project for the last three decades, according to the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles news release.
Badajos noted that FABAC-GLAC’s achievement in installing the monument is now part of Filipino-American history and an enduring testament to the friendship between Filipinos and Americans. He also thanked Glendale officials, led by Mayor Paula Devine, for supporting FABAG-GLAC and ensuring the project’s success.
The Historic Filipinotown Eastern Gateway was installed in Los Angeles to honor the contributions of the Filipino community ahead of the celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May.
In 2021, Filipino Americans celebrated 50 years of historical legacy in the United States while in 2019, a historical marker of the first Filipino settlement in America was unveiled in Louisiana.
