Four students Philippine Science High School (PSHS) – Main Campus, PSHS – Western Visayas Campus, PSHS – CALABARZON Region Campus, and Saint Jude Catholic School (SJCS), will be representing the Philippines in this year’s International Biology Olympiad (IBO) to be held in Armenia.
The students emerged as the country’s four delegates to the world high school biology student competition out of over 340 participants after winning this year’s annual Philippine Biology Olympiad (PBO) held from January to March 2022.
Chiara Tan-Gatue of Saint Jude Catholic School, who took home a bronze medal in last year’s IBO challenge, led this year’s winners and emerged as the champion of the national tilt organized by the Department of Biology of the Ateneo de Manila University and the Ateneo Biological Organization – eXplore. eXperience. eXcel. (BOx).
Tan-Gatue is joined by three other winners Raven Foronda, Yosef Segotier, and Liam Alleda, who are all students from the Philippine Science High School System.
Foronda from PSHS – Main Campus was named first runner-up, Yosef Segotier from PSHS – Western Visayas Campus won second runner-up, and Liam Alleda from PSHS – CALABARZON Region Campus was selected as third runner-up.
The Philippine Biology Olympiad (PBO) is the country’s premier biology competition, consisting mainly of quiz bee and laboratory skills tests, for students in grades 7 to 12.
The PBO serves as the venue for the selection of the country’s four student delegates to the annual International Biology Olympiad (IBO) and its national finals this year held from March 12 to 13.
This year’s winners of the Philippine Biology Olympiad will represent the country in the upcoming International Biology Olympiad (IBO) set to take place from July 10 to 18, 2022, in Yerevan, Armenia.
Last year, Team Philippines won four awards, including two bronze medals, in the online edition of the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) Challenge.
Recently, three students from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) – Main Campus, Victory Christian International School (VCIS), and Jubilee Christian Academy (JCA) in Metro Manila emerged as the winners of the 24th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) and will join the pool of representatives to the international edition of the math olympiad.
Students from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) Ilocos Region Campus led four schools’ seven awards haul including one gold in the 2022 Newtonian International Physics Olympiad Challenge (NIPOC).
