Filipino-American actors Kimee Balmilero, Tess Paras, Jason Rogel, and Kaden Alejandro have joined the cast of “Josep,” a new sitcom starring Hollywood comedian Jo Koy as a nurse.
The actors have been added as series regulars to the pilot sitcom coming soon to the United States television network, ABC, according to the Deadline report.
The show, which has been described as a comedy series, follows Josep (Jo Koy), a hard-working Filipino-American nurse trying to navigate dating and fatherhood, as well as a complicated relationship with his mother.
Filipina-American actor and director Tess Paras plays Cheryl, Jo’s newly-divorced ex-wife, and the mother of their son, Miles, played by young actor Kaden Alejandro.
Paras, who has starred in CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and Amazon’s “Just Add Magic”, is the first Asian female director for Viacom-CBS’ 2021 Virtual “Showcase”.
Filipino-American and Hawaii-born actress Kimee Balmilero portrays the role of Jo’s married sister, Geraldine, who runs a Filipino restaurant with her husband Seth in the show. Balmilero is best known for her regular role as Medical Examiner Dr. Noelani Cunha on CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0” and “Magnum P.I.”
Fil-Am actor Jason Rogel takes on the role of Will Lee, Jo’s best friend since high school. Rogel has appeared on television shows such as “Raven’s Home” on Disney Channel, “Bosch” on Amazon Prime, and “Kevin From Work” on Freeform, among others.
The latest additions to the show’s cast also join previously announced series regulars Mia Katigbak, who will play Lorna, Jo’s Filipino mom, and actor Rory O’Malley.
Earlier reports revealed that the half-hour comedy is written and executive produced by showrunner Steve Joe, Michael Golamco, Randall Park, with executive producer Hieu Ho. Jo Koy also exec produces alongside his manager Joe Meloche as well as Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar for Kasdan’s production company The Detective Agency.
