The Philippine Department of Tourism’s (DOT) “Have a Safe Trip, Pinas” video campaign has been named one of the Exceptional Stories of Sustainable Tourism in this year’s United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) tourism video competition.
The video entry was hailed the winner of the Asia-Pacific region in the contest which selected the best visual storytellers from around the globe to showcase tourism and its positive social impact.
The nearly 3-minute advertisement of the DOT highlights tourism in the new normal and the scenic white sand beaches of the world-renowned Boracay Island which has reopened to visitors with new safety guidelines.
Accompanied by Filipino singer Armi Millare’s rendition of the Basil Valdez OPM classic “You”, the video ad tells the story of a young man and woman who are seemingly meeting for the first time on the island.
The winning entry also features the community benefits of tourism and the locals of Boracay whose jobs and livelihoods were restored when the destination reopened to visitors.
The winners of the UNWTO Tourism Video Competition launched ahead of the organization’s 24th General Assembly in Madrid were announced on December 10, 2021.
The video entries were judged based on two categories: “Tourism and the Decade of Action” and “Exceptional Stories of Sustainable Tourism.”
Barangay Bojo in Aloguinsan, Cebu province was earlier named among the Best Tourism Villages by the UNWTO.
Another video promoting conservation and tourism, “SINTA-AL (My beloved, Taal)” by University of Santo Tomas (UST) researchers won the Best Video Award in an international symposium for conservation.
