Pinoy-pop group SB19 has overtaken world sensation Korean-pop BTS for the No. 1 spot in the Billboard Chart for Hot Trending Songs that ranks the most talked about songs on Twitter.
The pioneering Filipino boy group trained in the Korean entertainment management system toppled the popular K-pop idols’ Top 1 rank in the latest chart posted the night of December 7 for this week.
SB19’s “Bazinga” jumped to the Top 1 spot by 7 notches from its 8th spot last week, dislodging BTS’ 7 weeks record for “Butter”.
The lone Filipino act on the Billboard Hot Trending Songs Top 10 has been on the chart for 5 weeks after debuting at the No. 15 spot on November 4 and zooming to the No. 3 spot within 24 hours.
The P-Pop pioneers’ music video of “Bazinga”, a song from their Pagsibol EP, also topped the YouTube Trending Videos after its release in late October.
The P-pop band composed of five members Pablo (formerly Sejun), Josh, Stell, Justin, and Felip (formerly Ken), has been active on social media and nabbed a Top 10 rank in the Billboard Social 50 chart-topper and is the first Filipino act to be in the finals of the Billboard Music Awards.
“Bazinga” is an expression used by SB19 to counteract haters’ negativity with the band’s positivity.
Band leader Pablo wrote the lyrics of the song which consist mostly of English words along with some Tagalog and Japanese. The music video embodies a combat video game concept in choreography and graphics.
