The Project MERS team from the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) has made history by becoming the first Philippine team to be declared Grand Champions in the Asian Business Case Competition (ABCC) in Singapore.
The team, composed of UA&P students Ethan Gabriel Lee, Scott Gabriel Tiamson, Regina Maria Padojinog, and Marco Antonio Agonia, emerged as the champions of the grand finals held virtually on September 11, 2021.
The Filipino students bested international participants from universities around the world in Asia’s largest sustainability case competition including the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, University of New South Wales, and the University of Belgrade.
The Project MERS team joins the ranks of past winners University of Toronto and Nanyang Technological University, among others.
UA&P’s second team composed of Josh Cody Ong, Anna Maria Grio, Jose Olaes Genson II, and Arielle Keithley Mirandilla also placed within the top nine of the competition.
The Asian Business Case Competition is an international business case competition organized by members of Business Solutions and is Singapore’s first and only international undergraduate business case competition.
ABCC’s aim is to create an environment for students from outstanding business schools around the world so they can apply their knowledge and skills to solve real-life business problems, according to the event website.
Filipino students achieving historic firsts in world competitions include Mapua’s Carvey Maigue who won the first-ever James Dyson Award for Sustainability and the Philippine Science High School student who won the country’s first gold in the World Schools Debate Championships (WSDC) 2021.
