Filipina Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz has revealed plans to write a book to inspire the next generation of young athletes in the Philippines after lifting her way into history as the nation’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist.
Fresh off her historic victory on July 26, 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics in the Women’s 55kg weightlifting event, Hidilyn Diaz bared her plans to release a book about the mindset of an Olympic champion.
“Gagawa kami ng libro, Team HD, the dream team, after ko manalo to give inspiration sa mga bata, sa mga officials, and everyone in the Philippines,” Hidilyn Diaz said in her July 27 vlog with her coach and boyfriend Julius Naranjo. “Para malaman nila ano ba’ng mindset ng isang Olympic champion? Sana bibili kayo ‘pag may libro na.”
In the video, the 4-time Olympian and silver and gold medalist in the quadrennial Summer Games shared that her high standards and discipline as an athlete eventually worked in her favor to secure the win.
“Last time na-frustrated ako, sabi nila, ‘Alam mo Hids, okay lang ‘yan. Masyadong mataas ang standards mo,” Diaz continued.
Diaz took the time to thank everyone for their congratulatory messages and support: “I just want to say thank you, everyone, and take care always.”
The Zamboangueña weightlifting icon also gave fans a quick tour of the Olympic Village dining hall before she treated herself to a much-deserved meal.
Diaz made history when she delivered the Philippines’ first-ever gold in the Olympics after 97 years, raising the nation’s flag as the Philippine National Anthem was heard for the first time playing for the winner on the world’s biggest sports stage.
Her gold-winning lifts also established two Olympic Records.
The Filipino “weightlifting fairy” earlier co-authored a children’s book sharing the story of her Olympic journey to inspire more Filipinos to take up the sport.
