The University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University (DLSU), and University of Santo Tomas (UST) have retained their leadership among the Philippines’ higher educational institutions in the 2022 edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR).
The Philippines’ four leading universities remained among the 1,300 top universities ranked in the QS WUR released on June 9, 2021.
The largest-ever QS WUR list ranked universities based on the following indicators:
1. Academic reputation (40 percent)
2. Faculty-student ratio (20 percent)
3. Citations per faculty (20 percent)
4. Employer reputation (10 percent)
5. International students (5 percent)
6. International faculty (5 percent)
UP led the group in the top two metrics for Academic Reputation and Faculty-student ratio as well as for Employer reputation. DLSU led the criteria for Citations per Faculty, Ateneo led in International Students Ratio while UST led in International Faculty Ratio.
University of the Philippines
The country’s premier state university continues to lead all Philippine universities on the list since it debuted in the rankings in 2014.
UP is listed at #399 in the 2022 QS, still top-ranked despite a 3-point slide from its #396 rank in the 2021 edition.
Ateneo de Manila University
Ateneo kept 2nd rank after maintaining its 2020 rankings at bracket 601-650.
De La Salle University
DLSU is at 3rd place by also keeping its 2020 ranking in bracket 801-1000.
University of Santo Tomas
UST, the oldest existing university in both the Philippines and Asia, is located on Espana Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila. UST remains in 4th place among the four, moving down to bracket 1001-1200 from bracket 801-1000 in 2020.
