National Basketball Association (NBA) star Damian Lillard has teamed up with Filipino-British actress Yassi Pressman to help fund the repair of the University of the Philippines Philippine General Hospital (UP PGH) after it caught fire in May.
The actress recently paid a visit to the government-run health facility to extend her help and urged others to donate.
On her official Instagram account, Yassi Pressman thanked donors for their donations, including Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard who contributed an undisclosed “generous amount” for the hospital.
“Huuuuuge thanks to big brother @DamianLillard for sending over such a generous amount, kahit na wala siya Pilipinas, just to be able to help,” Yassi Pressman wrote on her Instagram post on May 29, 2021.
“Sana po matulungan pa natin ang PGH. I want to say thank you to @repronnieong for coming with me right away pagkatapos ko sabihing gusto kong mabisita ang @pghmedicalfoundation, my friend @rajpiku for helping me donate,” Pressman adds.
Lillard also shared about his donation to the UP-PGH using his Instagram stories feature.
The UP PGH is the country’s biggest COVID-19 referral hospital and has been at the forefront of innovative responses to the pandemic such as the convalescent plasma transfusion, telekumusta electronic visits, and the country’s first Covid-19 test kit.
Various calls for donations have been made by Filipinos on social media to aid the hospital after the Bureau of Fire Protection reported that a fire broke out on the third floor of the PGH main building in May. No injuries were reported but patients were evacuated, including Covid-19 patients and babies.
Here’s how you can donate to the UP-PGH.
