Basketball star Kiefer Ravena has signed with Nike’s iconic Jordan brand, becoming the first Filipino athlete to join the team.
The Gilas Pilipinas and NLEX Road Warriors guard was officially welcomed as the latest member of the Jordan family on May 3, 2021.
“I still can’t believe that I’m part of the Jordan Brand Family. I’m very fortunate to have a great support system,” Kiefer Ravena wrote. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to be the first Filipino joining the Jumpman Family.”
Ravena is one of the Philippines’ best basketball players. He was a developmental player for the NBA G-League’s Texas Legends before the NLEX Road Warriors selected him second overall in the Philippines Basketball Association (PBA) draft.
The second-generation basketball star has had five gold medal finishes with the national team in the Southeast Asian Games from 2011 through 2019. He also represented the Philippines in other international tournaments, such as the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2017, and FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2019, among others.
Jordan Brand issued a press release of Ravena’s signing.
“I feel like I’ve been welcomed with open arms…I remember speaking to the Brand about it last year,” Ravena said in his statement to the Nike subsidiary.
“Being in the same family as MJ and so many other names synonymous with greatness – I want to be a part of that. Being in the Jordan Brand family motivates me because I know I’m joining something special,” Ravena added.
The Philippines’ Kiefer Ravena joins the ranks of professional hoopers including Jayson Tatum, Russell Westbrook, Zion Williamson, Chris Paul, Asia Durr, Kia Nurse, among others, as a recent addition to the Jordan label.
