A 72-year-old mall pianist who lost his job during the coronavirus pandemic is now performing online concerts to support his medical needs.
Vidalito “Lolo Bong” Infante from Sampaloc, Manila, captured the attention of netizens on social media for his lively tunes on the piano that range from OPM (Original Pilipino Music), Kundiman, and other inspirational pieces.
Known for performing in Robinsons Magnolia, Rockwell, and Glorietta, Lolo Bong now plays the piano at home and happily accommodates music requests from virtual audiences who watch his Facebook live streams. It was Lolo Bong’s student and family friend Raymund Javier who suggested he share his talent online to inspire others.
The career pianist has received much love from Pinoy viewers who recognized Lolo Bong from his past performances in malls and pitched in donations for his daily needs and medication. They also encouraged fellow netizens on Facebook and Twitter to do the same and support Lolo Bong by watching his piano live streams.
Twitter user @fruitpreserve said: “Hello Twitter! If you used to frequent Glorietta/Rockwell pre-panini, you may want to consider sending a donation to Mr Vidalito Infante, the man behind the piano. The funds would go help pay for his meds & daily needs.”
Another netizen who is a frequent shopper of a local mall remarked that he knew Lolo Bong.
“It’s the Rockwell Piano Lolo. I am crying. Can’t Rockwell use Zoom to make him play remotely and have the sounds play in the mall. Kaya naman ng technology yun di ba,” @jericrustia wrote on Twitter.
Lolo Bong’s last online show which went live on March 14, 2021, received over 8,000 comments and 21,000 shares on Facebook.
