Podcasting is on showcase as a new media art form at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) multi-arts online festival “Tuloy Po Kayo (TPK)” slated for the last two weekends of March 2021.
The Tuloy Po Kayo CCP Online Multi-Arts Open Community Festival is the reinvented annual Pasinaya festival presented on the virtual platforms of Zoom, Vimeo, and social media scheduled to go live on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays of March 19-28.
The CCP Online Festival’s “Palihan” workshops and “Palabas” shows are presenting podcasting, downloadable episodes of the digital audio recording of spoken words. This is the first time podcasting is being included in the CCP arts festival.
CCP Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division’s Culture and Arts Officer III Minda Casagan shared with GoodNewsPilipinas.com about the introduction of podcasting in the festival.
“Actually, to equally represent all media under our division, Film, Broadcast and New Media, we’ve been trying to present a representation of each medium or artform (film and broadcast) in the annual Pasinaya,” said Casagan.
Podcasting was a natural choice for this virtual edition because it aligns well with new media as an online-based artform, Casagan added.
The division invited the Philippines’ two podcast pioneers, Cut Print Podcast Network which counts among its shows the viral “Sleeping Pill with Inka”, the top 1-searched Filipino podcast for 2020, and PumaPodcast with its news and public affairs-themed shows including “Tokhang sa Tokhang”, the first podcast from Asia included in the U.S. Library of Congress.
Both groups are set to hold online workshops for beginning podcasters and will also present vlog-type shows revealing how podcasting is done.
“They will make the audience enter their ‘world’ or space. Ipapakita nila kung paano nabubuo ang isang podcast,” the CCP officer said.
