The Book Stop Project is now back in Plaza Roma, Intramuros to give Filipinos free access to books and exchange reading materials.
The open-air mini-library encourages a passion for reading and the sharing of ideas through the redistribution of books. Book exchanges happen frequently, which means readers can expect to find new books all the time.
The Book Stop pop-up resumed operations on February 17, 2021, with strict observance of health and safety protocols.
Visitors are advised to comply with the following health protocols and reminders at The Book Stop in Intramuros:
- Guests are required to register their visit on the staysafe.ph app.
- No mask, no entry.
- Maintain physical distance of at least one (1) meter.
- Books can only be exchanged with books. Quality titles are encouraged so others can also enjoy great stories.
- Maintain cleanliness at The Book Stop.
The Book Stop Intramuros is a component of WTA Architecture + Design Studio’s The Book Stop Project Network which explores how libraries need to evolve, attract and engage contemporary users, and promote reading for the younger generations.
In 2016, the Book Stop won two international awards for the Philippines: the Architizer Award in New York, where it garnered both the People’s and the Jury’s awards; and a shortlist to the World Architecture Festival in Berlin, where it was nominated as World Building. In 2018 it was nominated for the Haligi ng Dangal Awards.
You can find the pop-up library The Book Stop Project at Plaza Roma (in front of the Manila Cathedral) in Intramuros, Manila. It is also a permanent fixture in Intramuros and was open all 24 hours of the day before the covid-19 pandemic.
