Manila’s Reins Mika has just won the 37th Elite Model Look (EML) World Digital Creator Award, the first Filipina to be given the recognition.
The Filipino-Chinese model was announced on January 31, 2021 (February 1 Philippine Time), as one of the four winners in the world final of the first digital edition of the worldwide competition for models.
Elite named the world finalist from the Philippines as the female winner in the Digital Creator category after winning the public vote and jury deliberation, besting competitors from Italy and the United States. Mika’s win comes with a top talent contract with one of the Elite World Group agencies.
Reins Mika went on social media to share the good news.
“A dream come true! I am the first Filipina to win the Elite Model Look World Final Competition in the Digital category and representing my beautiful country – the Philippines. 🇵🇭 #EML37
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to everyone who has supported me in this amazing “virtual” journey 💛🇵🇭”
Mika also shared a quote from EML’s Julia Haart:
“The digital revolution is coming fast… today what makes a talent is someone who has something to say, who stands for something, who believes, who can communicate with their audience. People aren’t looking at the traditional source anymore, they’re looking to YOU!… It’s not because about your height or how pretty you are. It’s about who you are, what you stand for, and how ambitious you are, how hungry you are to work for it… At any time in this industry has there been a moment where talent has the power that they have today – this freedom and destiny we get to create.”
Reins Mika’s profile on the Elite contest site shares the young Filipina model’s advocacy for women:
“My biggest hope for the future is for young women to never underestimate themselves. No matter how big or small the challenge can be it doesn’t determine what’s possible for you. It’s definitely important to always remind ourselves to be bigger than our fears because we are capable of anything if we put our hearts and minds towards it.”
The 21-year-old Reins Mika is currently being represented by the Philippine Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP) and has appeared in various magazines and campaigns for local brands like Human, Rustan’s, Bench, and the up and coming Philippine all-natural beauty brand using local ingredients, Pili Ani.
Filipinas who have won modeling competitions include Asia’s Next Top Model (ASNTM) 2017 Grand Winner Maureen Wroblewitz and runner-ups Monika Sta. Maria and Adela Mae Marshall.
