Filipino director Arvin Belarmino’s award-winning film Life’s Pedal (Tarang) has been honored among the Top Asian Films for 2020 cited by Asian Movie Pulse (AMP).
The Cavite-based filmmaker’s 17-minute short film was named among the 22 Best #SubmitYourFilm Movies of 2020 in the list released by AMP on December 27, 2020.
Life’s Pedal, a story of the life of the poor in Philippine slums, was reviewed in December by Panos Kotzathanasis for AMP as a film “that manages to be harsh, realistic and artful at the same time while avoiding the reef of the misery porn with flying colors.”
The AMP review praised Belarmino’s film presentation of his own view of life in poverty using a documentary-like approach.
In early December, Life’s Pedal won the Philippines’ first Best Film Award at the Interfilm Berlin – Short Film Festival in Germany, an Academy Award (Oscars) Qualifying Festival.
Arvin Belarmino’s “Nakaw” also made its way to screenings at the Landshut Short Film Festival (Landshuter Kurzfilmfestival) in Germany.
SEND CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to Arvin Belarmino for the honor given to Life’s Pedal as one of the Top Asian Films for 2020!
