Globe continues to improve its services in more locations in the country despite the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
By November 2020, the company has installed 211 new cell sites or cell towers in Metro Manila; Rizal; North and South Luzon; Visayas, and Mindanao.
Globe was able to build 20 new towers in Metro Manila, three in Rizal, one each in Ilocos Norte, Nueva Ecija, and two in Bulacan. Seven towers are now standing in Laguna, four in Cavite, three in Batangas, two in Albay, and one in Quezon.
In the Visayas, Cebu took the biggest part of the rollout with 16 new sites, Negros Occidental with two while Antique and Iloilo have one each.
At least one cell tower has been installed in Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte (2) Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Misamis Oriental, Sarangani, and Zamboanga del Sur (2) as Globe has expanded further in Mindanao.
“More towers mean better and wider coverage for our customers. We are also happy to note that Globe’s presence is now being felt and appreciated in more provinces in the country. Our network expansion in Agusan provinces, Davao peninsula, Sarangani, and in Zamboanga peninsula bodes well for bigger network rollouts in other key areas in Mindanao,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.
Complementing Globe’s network builds is the company’s equally aggressive modernization of its existing network infrastructure. 867 site upgrades have resulted in wider coverage in areas wherein installations of new cell sites remain a big challenge.
248 new 4G site upgrades were made in Mindanao (78 in Davao del Sur, 58 in Misamis Oriental, and 12 in Tawi-Tawi and Sulu), North Luzon (101), Metro Manila and Rizal (182) Visayas (252), and South Luzon (78).
Moreover, Globe is targeting to put up 636 5G ready sites in Metro Manila and 72 areas in Cebu, Iloilo, Davao del Sur, and Misamis Oriental.
“As experienced in previous areas, the site upgrades bring a better experience to our customers even to those who are limited by 2G/3G technology. With 4G LTE and the much-anticipated 5G now made available in more areas, our customers will experience the benefits of the Filipino digital lifestyle which will help them address the challenges of the new normal,” added Agustin.
Globe has laid out a 3-pronged strategy for its network upgrades and expansion, which includes aggressive cell site builds; upgrading its cell sites to 4G/LTE using many different frequencies; and fast-tracking the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.
Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UNSDG No. 9 which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
