The University of the Philippines (UP) remains the lone Philippine school in Asia’s Top 100 educational institutions, leading other top-performing schools in the country such as Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), and University of Sto Tomas (UST) in the 2021 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia rankings.
The 14 Philippine universities are among the 650 institutions across Asia that made it to the annual list released by the prestigious university performance ranking site on November 25, 2020.
UP, the Philippines’ leading public university, went even higher in the 2021 edition of the QS Asia rankings as it climbed up to 69th place among the top schools in Asia, 3 notches up from its 2020’s 72nd ranking.
The premier state university has also been consistently holding its top spot in the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR), placing at the 396th spot in the 2021 list released in June 2020.
Ateneo de Manila University, the 2nd highest-ranking Philippine university in the QS, placed #124 in the QS Asia rankings in 2020 but went 11 places down to #135 in the 2021 edition.
De La Salle University currently placed at #166, went 10 notches down from last year’s standing at #156. UST placed #186, down 7 notches from its 179th spot in 2020.

UP has shown consistent academic excellence in various disciplines and recently received recognition among the World’s Best Universities for Medicine, winning the Shell Eco-Marathon Tracking and Reducing CO2 Emissions Challenge regional competition, and dominating the Medicine board examination.
