Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues & You welcomes a new Filipino character – “Lola” – the grandma of host Josh Dela Cuz who is bringing Pinoy culture and traditions to the show.
The long-running American children’s show with its Filipino-American host Josh Dela Cruz will be visited by his Lola, played by veteran actress Carolyn Fe.
Fe shared about her guesting on Blue’s Clues & You in a Facebook post on November 11, 2020.
“Here we go! Gather the kids and grand kids, Lola (Grandma) is coming to visit Josh and Blue to taste Josh’s freshly baked Bibinka on Blue’s Clues and You!” wrote the Fil-Canadian actress Carolyn Fe in her post.
In a teaser video, Dela Cruz merrily welcomed Lola with a hug and the Pinoy sign of respect to the elderly, the “mano po” where he slightly lowered his head and presses Lola’s hand to his forehead.
Aside from the Filipino gesture, the anticipated episode will also highlight another delightful representation of Pinoy culture – the baking of sweet Filipino rice cake or “bibingka”.
As the newest character in the show, Fe couldn’t help but be proud of how the Filipino culture will be brought to a wide-scale audience.
“I did the audition and that’s when I realized, oh my god! we’re doing the Filipino flip here and wow! it blew my mind that we are going to be represented in the biggest way. This is huge!” narrated Fe in a video interview with OMNI Filipino.
“Can you imagine the next generation, of children in general, they’re going to get to know the Filipino culture!” added Fe.
The highly-anticipated episode tells the importance of friendship and familial love. It will air on Friday, November 20 at 11 am (ET/PT) on the Nickelodeon Channel.
Disney has also celebrated Filipino heritage with an animated short that pays homage to Filipino Christmas traditions and a video tutorial on how to create festive Filipino Parol lanterns.
