De La Salle University (DLSU) has topped Business and Economics studies in the Philippines on the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) by Subject.
DLSU was given a global ranking of 601+, from among 1,512 institutions included in the subject rankings, in its first appearance in the Business and Economics category of the THE WUR By Subject Rankings released in October 2020.
The private Catholic university was given the following scores:
- Citations – 35.2
- Industry Income – 35.0
- International Outlook – 23.6
- Teaching – 11.4
- Research – 7.9
The rankings apply the same rigorous performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings but have been adjusted to suit the specific field. The list only includes research-intensive Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and the criteria used put a premium on research resources, global outlook, productivity, and impact.
Ramon V. del Rosario College of Business (RVR COB) Dean Dr. Emelina Sarreal congratulated her college as well as the School of Economics for the milestone.
“Our students graduate and new ones are admitted. New programs and courses are introduced, academic leaders leave with legacies, while new ones take the helm with visions to change. The only constant element for a school of business is its faculty and we recognize their contribution, whether big or small, to a University’s ability to land in global rankings.”
School of Economics Dean Dr. Marites Tiongco said the feat is a response to DLSU’s institutional achievements. “Now that the University has clinched the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance seal, and ranked 301+ by the THE Asia University Rankings, thereby branding it as a regional university, expectations run high for all academic units to perform well. As a result, the School of Economics has to manifest the Lasallian steadfastness in terms of bridging faith and scholarship, allocating talent and resources in the service of God and country, providing quality economics education, and generating research projects that matter to society.”
Aside from the Business and Economics, DLSU is also the country’s top HEI in the Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences THE WUR Subject Area Rankings.
DLSU and the University of the Philippines are the only HEI from the Philippines included in the THE WUR.
DLSU was included in THE WUR Impact Rankings when it was launched in 2019 as the first UN SDG-based performance rankings.
SEND CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to De La Salle University for topping the THE WUR Subjects Rankings for business and economics studies in the Philippines.
