British pop sensation Sam Smith welcomes singing with the Philippines’ blind balladeer Carl Malone Montecido who went viral with a cover of the former’s hit song.
In an interview with MYX Global, Smith said it “would be an absolute honor” to perform with Montecido, who went viral on social media for his video cover of the Grammy winner’s top hit “Too Good at Goodbyes” recorded in a shopping mall.
“One hundred million percent. Yes, yes, yes! It would be an absolute honor to sing with him. He’s incredible. He’s a better singer than I am. I’ll be so scared singing with him. He’s unbelievable,” Smith said in the interview.
Montecido admitted to being the singer’s biggest fan and is known for reaching the finals of the first season of the Tawag ng Tanghalan reboot on It’s Showtime where he earned the moniker “Blind Balladeer of Bacolod.” The talented young singer was also invited to guest on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
Smith earlier praised and reposted Montecido’s viral song cover which amassed over 9.5 million views back in February.
“WHO IS THIS KID? YOU ARE OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE WHOEVER YOU ARE,” Sam Smith wrote in his tweet.
Montecido was thankful to Smith for noticing his video and felt more inspired to further his music career. The Filipino singer uploads his music and vlogs to his YouTube channel and won a silver medal at the World Championship of Performing Arts Virtual 2020.
Smith, who recently came out as non-binary and prefers the pronouns they/them, was invited on the Myx Global show for their newest album “Love Goes” which drops on October 30, 2020.
